note

appears never to have been summoned to Parliament but the Barony can be presumed to have been recognised in that his son is recorded in the Parliament Roll of 1685 as "under age"; modern Peerage law would consider any writ issued to him as creating a Barony in fee de novo of date 1641/61 but, unusually, allowed a precedency of 1392

note

his name appears in the Parliament Roll of 1685 as "under age"; the anomalous precedency of this Barony in Parliament of being the premier barony was challenged 1669/70 by Lord Fitzwalter, who sat under a writ of 1295; Chief Larderer at the Coronation of King James II 1685; on the death of the 2nd Baron Bergavenny the Barony was claimed by his cousin and heir male, George Nevill, but as a Barony in fee it should have passed to his niece, Frances Shelley, later Lady FitzWilliam
