modern Peerage Law would consider the writ of 1724 followed by a sitting as creating a Barony in fee de novo of date 1724 but, unusually, allowed a precedency of 1324;  Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard 1737;  Master of the Jewel Office 1739

George [Nevill], 2nd Baron Abergavenny later 1st Earl of Abergavenny

17 May 1784 Viscount Nevill, of Birling in the County of Kent, and Earl of Abergavenny

The Barony of Abergavenny was held by the Earls of Abergavenny (created Marquesses of Abergavenny on 14 Jan 1876) from 17 May 1784 until 10 Jan 1938, when on the death of Henry Gilbert Ralph [Nevill], 3rd Marquess of Abergavenny, 23rd or 16th or 8th Baron Abergavenny, etc., the Barony of Abergavenny fell into abeyance between his two daughters.
