William [Boyd], 10th Lord Boyd later 1st Earl of Kilmarnock

created

17 Aug 1661 Earl of Kilmarnock, to him and his heirs male forever

The Lordship of Boyd was held by the Earls of Kilmarnock from 17 Aug 1661 to 18 Aug 1746, when William [Boyd], 4th Earl of Kilmarnock and 13th Lord Boyd, was attainted for high treason and both his titles forfeited to the Crown.

Editor's Note: There is some confusion with the numbering of the Lords Boyd, depending on whether Alexander Boyd actually succeeded his nephew as 3rd Lord Boyd. I have decided to follow the lead set by Sir James Balfour Paul in "The Scots Peerage" and assume that every successive head of the family since the 1st Lord Boyd also inherited the peerage.
