26 Apr 1697 Viscount Deerhurst, of the Hundred of Deerhurst in the County of Gloucester, and Earl of Coventry, with special remainder, failing the heirs male of his body, to Francis Coventry, of Mortlake, Surrey (younger son of Thomas, 1st Baron Coventry), and the heirs male of his body, with remainder to William Coventry, Thomas Coventry, and Henry Coventry, and the heirs male of their bodies respectively, children of Walter Coventry, late of London, merchant, son and heir of Walter Coventry, a younger brother of the said 1st Baron Coventry

 

The Barony of Coventry was held by the Earls of Coventry from 26 Apr 1687 until 27 Oct 1719, when on the death of Gilbert [Coventry], 4th Earl of Coventry, 8th Baron Coventry, etc., the Barony of Coventry became extinct and the Earldom of Coventry, due to its special remainder, passed to a second cousin once removed descended from the brother of the 1st Baron Coventry.
