The Earldom of Hertford was held by the Earls of Gloucester from c.14 Oct 1217 until 24 Jun 1314, when on the death of Gilbert [de Clare], 7th Earl of Gloucester and 7th Earl of Hertford at the Battle of Bannockburn both earldoms became extinct
