Following the death of the 10th Earl of Huntingdon the earldom was dormant for 30 years until claimed by Hans Francis Hastings, who succeeded in establishing his right to the earldom and received his summons in that title on 14 Jan 1819. As a consequence of this decision the Earldom of Huntingdon was held to have passed to his late uncle following the death of the 10th Earl of Huntingdon,
