The Viscountcy of Cobham was held by the Earls Temple from 18 Oct 1749 until 4 Dec 1784 when George [Grenville later Nugent-Temple-Grenville], 3rd Earl Temple, was created Marquess of Buckingham; his son was created Duke of Buckingham and Chandos on 4 Feb 1822; on the death on 26 Mar 1889 of Richard Plantagenet Campbell [Temple-Nugent-Brydges-Chandos-Grenville], 3rd Duke of Buckingham and Chandos, 7th Viscount Cobham, etc. several of his titles became extinct but the Viscountcy and Barony of Cobham were inherited by his fourth cousin once removed:
