Hereditary Constable of the Castle of the Bishop of Ross 1595; Privy Councillor [S] 1595/6 and 1602; Justice of the Peace of the counties of Inverness, Cromarty, Elgin, Fife and Nairne; received a commission 1610 to attack Neil McLeod and the Isle of Lewis, after which he was granted Lewis as a free barony

The Lordship of Mackenzie of Kintail was held by the Earls of Seaforth from 3 Dec 1623 until 7 May 1716, when on the attainder for high treason of William [Mackenzie], 5th Earl of Seaforth and 6th Lord Mackenzie of Kintail, both his titles were forfeited to the Crown.
