The descendants of the 5th Earl of Nithsdale were restored in blood in so far as the Lordship of Herries of Terregles was concerned by Act of Parliament in 1848 and on 23 Jun 1858 the House of Lords allowed the Lordship of Herries of Terregles to William [Constable-Maxwell], 10th Lord Herries of Terregles.
