Argent within a Double Tressure flory counterflory a Heart Gules crowned Or under a Fess of the second charged with two Mullets of the field, a Martlet for difference

An Ermine proper

On either side a Gamecock proper

Motto:

 Sans tache

Note:  These arms are as given by Sir James Balfour.  But a stone on the Gorbals Court house the mullets on a chief and for supporters, dexter, a savage holding in his exterior hand a club, and, sinister, a lion imperially crowned.

Page of Honour and Master of the Horse to Henry, Prince of Wales;  knighted 1608/9;  Gentleman of the Bedchamber to King James I; granted the lordship of Torthorwald 1617; Privy Councillor 1622; granted the office of chamberlain and baillie of the lordship of Dunbar 1624; granted the barony of Spott 1624; Gentleman of the Bedchamber to King Charles I;  Master of the Household;  acquired the barony of Gorbals from Sir George Elphinston of Blythswood 1634; he had two natural children, John and Susanna, by his mistress, ..... Whalley - they were legitimated 1631 and Susanna later married Sir Robert Douglas of Blackerston, by whom she had a large family; Lord Belhaven had made over to them the barony of Gorbals in 1636, which they later sold to the Corporation of Glasgow 1650

On the death of the 1st Viscount of Belhaven the Viscountcy of Belhaven became extinct.
