2nd but 1st surv. son and heir of Rt Hon James Fortescue MP (by his wife Mary Henrietta Hunter, 1st dau. of Thomas Orby Hunter, of Crowland Abbey, co. Lincoln), younger brother of William Henry [Fortescue], 1st Earl of Clermont, 1st Viscount Clermont, etc., and 2nd son of Thomas Fortescue MP, of Randalston afterwards Clermont Park, co. Louth

Lieut in the Army 1783 and Lt Col 1800 ; Member of Parliament for co. Louth [I] 1795-1800 and [UK] 1800-06; suc. his uncle 30 Sep 1806 as 2nd Viscount Clermont

 

On the death of the 2nd Viscount Clermont the Viscountcy of Clermont became extinct.
