This family descends from a younger brother of Alexander Campbell, 1st of Possil, and is therefore a cadet of the Campbells of Kinloch, a younger branch of the Campbells, Earls of Breadalbane.  Lord Colgrain was 6th son of George William Campbell, by his wife Florence Hogg, 6th dau. of Rt Hon Sir James Weir Hogg, 1st Bt. MP
