The Barony of Coventry was held by the Earls of Coventry from 26 Apr 1687 until 27 Oct 1719, when on the death of Gilbert [Coventry], 4th Earl of Coventry, 8th Baron Coventry, etc., the Barony of Coventry became extinct and the Earldom of Coventry, due to its special remainder, passed to a second cousin once removed descended from the brother of the 1st Baron Coventry.
