served in the wars in the Low Countries; knighted 1591; Lieut General of the Horse in Ireland 1599; Governor of Armagh 1601; Sergeant Major General of the Army 1602; restored in blood as heir to his father by Act of Parliament 1605, his elder brother Sir Charles Danvers having being found guilty of high treason, attainted and executed for his part in the rebellion by the Earl of Essex; Lord President of Munster 1607-15; Governor of Guernsey 1620/1-43/4; Privy Councillor 1628; Constable of Pickering Castle 1628; Grand Master of Freemasons 1630-33; Knight of the Garter 1633; Keeper of Wychwood Forest 1638; a Commissioner of Regency 1641

 

On the death of the 1st Earl of Danby both his titles became extinct. His great-nephew, Thomas [Osborne], 1st Viscount Osburne, was created Earl of Danby in 1674.
