Note: The arms above appear from various entries in Ulster's Office to have been the family arms of FitzWilliam of Mount Merrion, co. Dublin, but it appears from an entry in the Lords' Entries that the 2nd Viscount FitzWilliam, when created Earl of Tyrconnel, adopted the arms of FitzWilliam of Sprotborough (Lozengy Or and Gules), which were used by the subsequent viscounts who succeeded after the earldom expired.

On the death of the 9th Viscount FitzWilliam the Viscountcy of FitzWilliam became extinct and the Barony of Bergavenny fell into abeyance between the descendants of his two aunts, Mary, Countess of Pembroke, and Frances, Lady Carbery.
