On 17 Jun 1884 James [Ogilvy-Grant of Grant], 9th Earl of Seafield, was created Baron Strathspey, of Strathspey in the Counties of Inverness and Moray. The Barony of Strathspey was held by the Earls of Seafield from that date until 12 November 1915, when on the death of James [Ogilvie-Grant of Grant], 11th Earl of Seafield, 3rd Baron Strathspey, etc., the Earldom of Seafield passed to his only daughter and the Barony of Strathspey passed to his younger brother,
