admitted Inner Temple 1610; knighted 1616/7; Member of Parliament for Yorkshire 1624-25 and for York 1628; a Gentleman of the Privy Chamber 1626; suc. his father as 3rd Baron Savile 31 Aug 1630; with Charles I at York 1639 ; Privy Councillor 1640/1; Lord President of the Council of the North 1641; Lord Lieutenant of Yorkshire 1641; a Commissioner of Regency 1641; Treasurer of the Household 1641-44/5 ; Governor of York 1642; arrested and imprisoned in Newark Castle 1642-43 but pardoned by the King; arrested again 1644/5 on the orders of the King; imprisoned in the Tower of London for contempt of Parliament 1645-46
