note

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex issued a statement shortly after their son's birth that he would not bear any courtesy titles, and would be known as "Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor". This is a complete break with tradition and with the laws and customs governing Royal Titles and Peerages. Until such time as this is confirmed by a Royal Warrant we will continue to refer to the Earl of Dumbarton and his sister by the styles they correctly enjoy as grandchildren of the Sovereign in the male line.

The Duchess of Sussex is very distantly related to her husband. Her father, Thomas Markle, is the 16 x great-grandson of Hon Mary Clifford, Lady Wentworth, dau. of John [Clifford], 7th Baron Clifford, and great-great-great-granddaughter of King Edward III. This makes the Duke and Duchess seventeenth cousins. The Duchess has colonial ancestors in common with eight Presidents (George W Bush, George H W Bush, Gerald Ford, Richard M Nixon, Herbert Hoover, Calvin Coolidge, Chester A Arthur and James A Garfield) and three First Ladies (Frances Cleveland, Ellen Wilson and Mamie Eisenhower). She is also related to poet John Greenleaf Whittier, writer "O Henry" (William S Porter), lawyer Clarence Darrow, actor James Dean, Senator Sam Ervin of the Watergate hearings, singer and actor "Roy Rogers" (Leonard F Slye), US Secretary of State Senator John Kerry and Canadian Prime Minister Lester Pearson.
