On the death of the 3rd Marquess of Thomond the Marquessate of Thomond, the Earldom of Inchiquin and the Barony of O'Brien became extinct but the Barony of Inchiquin devolved on his kinsman Lucius O'Brien as heir male of the body of the 1st Baron Inchiquin.
