On the death of the 1st Baron Wenlock the Barony of Wenlock became extinct, and the baronetcy (cr. 1641) passed to his next brother, Sir Francis Lawley, 7th Bt. In 1839 his younger brother, Paul Beilby Lawley later Thompson, was created Baron Wenlock.
