Dormant and Extinct Irish Baronies

 

Aghrim, Baron (I, 1676 - 1676) - the barony was held by the 1st Earl of Gowran from early in 1676, when he was created Baron Aghrim, Viscount Clonmore and Earl of Gowran, until later in the same year when he died and all his titles became extinct

Aghrim, Baron (I, 1692 - 1844) - the barony was held by the Earls of Athlone from its creation in 1692, when Godard van Reede was created Baron of Aghrim and Earl of Athlone, until 1844, when on the death of the 9th Earl of Athlone all his titles became extinct

Alington, Baron (I, 1642 - 1722/3)

Allen, Baron (I, 1717 - 1845) - the barony was held by the Viscounts Allen from its creation in 1717, when Rt Hon John Allen MP was created Baron Allen and Viscount Allen, until 1845, when on the death of the 6th Viscount Allen both the barony and the viscountcy became extinct

Altham, Baron (I, 1680/1 - 1844) - the barony was held by the Viscounts Valentia from 1737, when the 5th Baron Altham succeeded his cousin as 7th Viscount Valentia, until 1844, when on the death of the 9th Viscount Valentia (also 2nd Earl of Mountnorris) the barony became extinct

Ardelve, Baron (I, 1766 - 1781) - the barony was held by the 1st Viscount Forteviot from its creation in 1766, when Kenneth Mackenzie was created Baron Ardelve and Viscount Forteviot, until 1771, when he was created Earl of Seaforth; he died in 1781 and all his titles became extinct

Arden, Baron (I, 1770 - 2011) - the barony was held by Earls of Egmont from 1841, when the 3rd Baron Arden succeeded his cousin as 6th Earl of Egmont, until 2011, when on the death of the 12th Earl of Egmont all his titles became extinct

Audley, Baron (I, 1616 - 1777) - the barony was held by the Earls of Castlehaven from its creation in 1616, when the 11th Baron Audley of Heleigh (cr. England 1313) was created Baron Audley and Earl of Castlehaven, until 1777, when on the death of the 8th Earl of Castlehaven both titles created in 1616 became extinct

Carpenter, Baron (I, 1719 - 1853) - the barony was held by the Earls of Tyrconnell from 1761, when the 3rd Baron Carpenter was created Viscount Carlingford and Earl of Tyrconnell, until 1853, when on the death of the 4th Earl of Tyrconnell all his titles became extinct

Castlebar, Baron (I, 1628 - 1671) - the barony was held by the Viscounts Savile from its creation in 1628, when Hon Sir Thomas Savile MP was created Baron of Castlebar and Viscount Savile, and by the Earls of Sussex from 1644, when the 1st Viscount Savile was created Earl of Sussex, until 1671, when on the death of the 2nd Earl of Sussex all his titles became extinct

Macartney, Baron (I, 1788 - 1806) - the 1st Baron Macartney was created Viscount Macartney in 1792 and Earl Macartney in 1794; all these titles became extinct on his death in 1806

Moore of Tullamore, Baron (I, 1715 - 1764) - the barony was held by the 1st Earl of Charleville from 1758, when the 2nd Baron Moore of Tullamore was created Earl of Charleville, until his death in 1764 when both his titles became extinct

Mountcashell, Baron (I, 1706 - 1736) - the barony was held by the Viscounts Mountcashell from its creation in 1706 until 1736, when on the death of the 3rd Viscount Mountcashell both titles became extinct

Newcomen, Baron (I, 1800 - 1825) - Baroness Newcomen was created Viscountess Newcomen in 1803; both titles became extinct on the death of her son, the 2nd Viscount Newcomen, in 1825

Newtown, Baron (I, 1718 - 1784) - the barony was held by the 1st Viscount Castlemaine from its creation in 1718, when Sir Richard Child, 3rd Bt., was created Baron Newtown and Viscount Castlemaine, and by the Earls Tylney from 1731, when the 1st Viscount Castlemaine was created Earl Tylney, until 1784, when on the death of the 2nd Earl Tylney all his titles became extinct

Newtown-Butler, Baron (I, 1715 - 1998) - the barony was held by the Viscounts Lanesborough from 1728, when the 2nd Baron Newtown-Butler was created Viscount Lanesborough, and by the Earls of Lanesborough from 1756, when the 2nd Viscount Lanesborough was created Earl of Lanesborough, until 1998, when all three titles became extinct on the death of the 9th Earl of Lanesborough

Nugent, Baron (I, 1767 - 1788) - the Rt Hon Robert Nugent MP was created Baron Nugent and Viscount Clare in 1767 and Earl Nugent in 1788; on his death in 1788 the Barony of Nugent and the Viscountcy of Clare became extinct and the Earldom of Nugent passed to his son-in-law
