On the death of the 3rd Baron Abergavenny, the Barony of Abergavenny being a barony in fee, albeit no recognised as such at the time, would have fallen into abeyance between his two sisters, Hon Jane Nevill, who mar. John Abel Walter, of Busbridge, co. Surrey, and Hon Anne Nevill; on the death unmarried of Hon Anne Nevill in 1737 the remaining sister, Hon Jane Walter, should have succeeded to the Barony of Abergavenny as the sole heiress of her brother:
