A quadrangular plate of gilded copper with narrow black border lines. The shield of arms is quarterly: 1st and 4th,

grandquarterly Bourchier quartering Lovain, 2nd and 3rd, Berners. The helm, which is gilt, is nearly covered by a red

mantle sown with the gold billets of Lovain, with tassels half white and half red. The mantling has a silver lining

powdered on one side with black water bougets and Bourchier knots, and on the other side with knots and bougets.

On his death the Barony of Berners fell into abeyance between his two daughters, Mary, Lady Unton and Jane Knyvet.  Despite the abeyance being theoretically terminated about 1550 by the death without issue of the elder of the two daughters, the barony was not claimed by the younger daughter or by any of her immediate descendants.  When its continuing existence was established by the House of Lords decision in 1720, the barony was deemed to have lain dormant since about 1550
