Member of Parliament (Tory) for Newark 1698-1700 and 1701-10; Vice-Admiral of Lincolnshire 1705-23; suc. his father as 6th Viscount Castleton 27 May 1714

On the death of the 1st Earl Castleton all his peerage titles and his baronetcy became extinct. He left his estates to his maternal cousin, Hon Thomas Lumley later Lumley-Saunderson, later 3rd Earl of Scarbrough.
