On the death of the 3rd Baron Crewe of Crewe the Barony of Crewe of Crewe became extinct. Crewe Hall and the family estates passed to his nephew, Robert Offley Ashburton [Milnes later Crewe-Milnes], 2nd Baron Houghton, later (1895) 1st Earl of Crewe and (1911) 1st Marquess of Crewe.
