Member of Parliament (Tory) for Downton 1802-03, for Worcestershire 1803-06, for Petersfield 1806-07, for Wareham 1807-12, for Ilchester 1812-18, and for Bossiney 1819-23; suc. his father 25 Apr 1823 as 4th Viscount Dudley and Ward; Privy Councillor 1827; Foreign Secretary 1827-28

 

On his death the Earldom of Dudley and the two Viscountcies of Dudley and Ward and of Ednam became extinct and the Barony of Ward passed to his second cousin, William Humble Ward, as the next heir male of the body of the 1st Baron Ward.
