It is thought that sometime between 1643 and 1645 he was created Baron Beaufort, of Caldecot Castle in the County of Monmouth, and Earl of Glamorgan, with special remainder to his male issue by Lady Margaret O'Brien, his second wife, failing which to the heirs male of his body.  The usual entries to this effect were made in the docquet books for April 1645, in the Signet Office and the Privy Seal Office.  It does not appear, however, that the Letters Patent for this creation ever passed the Great Seal, though he was almost invariably styled by the King and others Earl of Glamorgan, until he succeeded his father as 2nd Marquess of Worcester in 1646.  These titles were not used by his immediate successors but they were used on his Garter stall-plate by Henry [Somerset], 2nd Duke of Beaufort, and similarly used by the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th Dukes.  It is today thought to be a moot point whether these titles fully existed or not.
