accompanied the Duke of Hamilton on his unsuccessful expedition into England 1648 and was captured and imprisoned for a year; joined King Charles II in the Netherlands; when the King invaded England in 1651 Lord Bargeny was sent to Scotland to raise a force; he was again taken prisoner and was imprisoned in the Tower of London for about a year; he was exempted from Cromwell's Act of Grace and Pardon 1654
