On the death of the 5th Earl of Mornington the Barony of Maryborough became extinct and he was succeeded in the Earldom of Mornington, etc. by his first cousin once-removed, Arthur Richard [Wellesley], 2nd Duke of Wellington.

The Earldom of Mornington has been held by the Dukes of Wellington since 25 Jul 1863.
