7 Jul 1604 Lord Scone; by charter under the Great Seal of Scotland 18 Aug 1608 he was granted the lands of the dissolved Abbey of Scone , which were erected into a temporal lordship and barony of Scone, giving the dignity of a Baron and Lord of Parliament, with the title of Lord Scone, to him and the heirs male of his body, whom failing to (1) his nephew, Sir Andrew Murray of Balvaird, in like manner; by a further charter dated 29 Apr 1612 the remainder was extended in favour of (2) his kinsman, Sir Mungo Murray of Drumcairn, brother-in-law to Sir Andrew abovementioned, (3) John Murray of Reidkirk, afterwards 1st Earl of Annandale, (4) Gilbert Murray, son of his cousin german, David Murray of Balgony, (5) Andrew Murray, second son of the said David, later created Lord Balvaird, and (6) William Murray, brother uterine to Sir Andrew aforesaid, only son of his kinsman, Sir Mungo Murray of Claremont, in like manner, with a final remainder to his own heirs male whatsoever, bearing the name and arms of Murray of Balvaird.
