note

suc. his mother 14 Aug 1516 as 7th Baron Greystock and 9th Baron FitzWilliam and his father 24 Oct 1525 as 3rd Baron Dacre of Gilsland

He and his successors were known by the Dacre of Gilsland title even though the two baronies he inherited from his mother were senior (created respectively 1321 and 1295) to that inherited from his father. The three baronies were held together until 1569, when on the death without issue of George [Dacre], 5th Baron Dacre of Gilsland, 9th Baron Greystock and 11th Baron FitzWilliam, they fell into abeyance between his three sisters and their descendants.
